    • Use solid core or metal doors with deadbolt locks.

    • Install window locks and consider reinforced glass or security film.

    • Fit door viewers (peepholes) and door chains.

  • Outdoor Lighting

    • Use motion-activated lights around entrances and dark corners.

    • Keep pathways and driveways well-lit.

  • Fencing and Gates

    • Ensure fences are high and difficult to climb.

    • Lock side gates with padlocks or bolt locks.

  • Garage and Shed Security

    • Use strong locks and consider alarms for outbuildings.

    • Don’t leave tools or ladders accessible—they can be used to break in.

  • 📱 Smart Technology

  • Security Cameras

    • Install visible CCTV cameras at entry points.

    • Use systems with remote access and cloud storage.

  • Smart Alarms

    • Choose alarms that notify you via smartphone.

    • Monitor who’s at your door even when you’re away.

    • Record interactions and deter opportunistic thieves.

    • Join or start a local Neighbourhood Watch group.

    • Share suspicious activity and support each other.

  • Keep Valuables Out of Sight

    • Don’t leave expensive items visible through windows.

    • Store valuables in a safe or secure cabinet.

  • 🛡️ Extra Tips

  • Mark valuables with a UV pen or register them with Immobilise, the UK’s national property register.

  • Review home insurance to ensure it covers theft and burglary.

  • Check local crime stats and stay informed about trends in your area.
